Dialogue on Tax and SDGs 2023

Dialogue on Tax and SDGs
November 14 to 17, 2023

The Dialogue on Tax and Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) was held from November 14-17, 2023, at Columbia University and UNDP in New York. Organized by the governments of Finland and Norway, Columbia University, and UNDP, this event marked progress toward aligning tax systems with the SDGs as we approach the mid-point of the 2030 Agenda.

Taxation can drive sustainable development, strengthen social contracts, and impact key SDGs like health, climate, and governance. This year's Dialogue explored how tax policies and administration can build equitable societies with robust, just tax systems.

Building on last year's success, the 2023 Dialogue aimed to enable global leaders, thinkers, policymakers, tax administrators and diplomats, academics, and thought leaders to engage in constructive dialogues and find pragmatic solutions and interdisciplinary strategies for innovative tax measures that advance the SDGs.

Sessions addressed topics like reshaping social contracts, global economics amid debt and interest rates, and the links between tax and gender equality. The goal was to deepen understanding and drive collaborative action on taxation and SDGs.

The event highlighted how tax can transform economies and societies, the need for transparency and accountability, and the media's role in rallying support for SDG-focused tax policies.
